PEARL ONLINE
The need for continual formation- academic, spiritual, and cultural has remained a foremost priority at Pearl Club of Uzommiri Study Centre. That is why in spite of these unprecedented times, the idea of maximizing a virtual space to continue the regular Saturday club activities and the daily Guided Study Programme was not far-fetched.
With the aid of various platforms that support e-learning such as whatsapp, Google classroom, zoom, and the support of the parents of the club who have always been our greatest champions in all situations, pearl online began. At first, the volunteers and coordinators of the club taught the girls mathematics and English via whatsapp, twice a week for about an hour. Then we gradually moved on to Google classroom as it offered more possibilities of providing the girls with study materials, occasional quizzes and extra-curriculars in the form of games and videos. The guided study programme was designed to run from Monday to Friday from 4pm to 6pm, with coordinators online at that period to answer questions that may have arisen while the girls were studying and facilitate group discussions if need be. As our intention is that no child performs below expectation simply because of the change in learning style.
However, on Saturdays, the girls are encouraged to take part in other recreational and educational activities like cookery, foreign culture acculturation, movie reviewing, critiquing, even a creativity contest of both arts and writing categories which was just concluded. This is because part of an all-round formation is that a child excels not only in school work but in character, self-knowledge and team spirit. They also help to keep the girls physically and mentally engaged all the while providing an avenue for self-expression and relaxation with their friends, particularly in these times of uncertainty and anxiety.
